Lois Wolk (born 12 May 1946 in Philadelphia, PA) is a Democratic politician
from Davis, California. She is currently serving her third and final term in the
California State Assembly. Wolk represents the 8th District, which includes the
cities of Benicia, Davis, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun City, Vacaville,
West Sacramento, Winters, and Woodland.
First elected to the Assembly in 2002, Wolk subsequently won elections in 2004
and 2006. She terms out in 2008 and is expected to run for State Senate in
California's competitive 5th District.
Wolk is the Chair of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and she
serves on Assembly Committees on Budget, Local Government, and Natural
Resources, as well as the Budget Subcommittee on Transportation and Information
Technology. In addition, Wolk serves on numerous Select Committees including
Biotechnology; California Children’s School Readiness and Health; Domestic
Violence; Growth and Infrastructure; Ports; Water, Infrastructure and the
Economy; Rural Economic Development; and Wine.
Prior to serving in the State Assembly, Wolk won a seat on the Davis City
Council in 1990, and served two terms as Mayor from 1992-94 and 1996-98. She
then served as Yolo County Supervisor from 1998 to 2002, chairing the Board in
2000.
Wolk earned her B.A. from Antioch College in 1968, and an M.A. from Johns
Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in 1971. She has taught
History, Social Studies and French in grades 7 through 12 in both public and
private schools. She has been married to Bruce Wolk, Professor of Law at UC
Davis Law School since 1968. They have two sons: Adam and Dan.
